During an episode on his dad’s new sports show, 7 PM in Brooklyn, Kiyan Anthony announced his decision to commit to Syracuse University. He was joined by his mom, Lala Anthony, and co-host, The Kid Mero.

“I just want to thank both of the coaching staffs for recruiting me. And coming to all my practices. And all my games, but at the end of the day, only one can stay. And with that being said, I’m committing to Syracuse University,” Anthony announced.

“Just looking at Syracuse and seeing what can be done over there, if I was to go over there. And they already have top people coming in, who I’m close with, a young coaching staff that I could connect [with], close to home, 45-minute flight, and they’re in the ACC. You know they play Duke, Carolina, they play all the good schools. All of that played a part in why I chose [to be] here.”

Although in this upcoming school year, Anthony will soon be walking in his father’s footsteps and playing in a facility adorned with his father’s name, he plans to make a name for himself.

Ranked number 36 on the ESPN 100, the 6-foot-5 guard has proven to be a walking bucket like his father, the ‘Cuse legend, Carmelo Anthony. During spring ball, he posted an average of 19.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game, which he played on Team Melo, his father’s AAU team on the Nike EYBL Circuit.

The prolific performer acknowledges the differences between him and Carmelo but uses his father’s comparison and experience to his advantage as he incorporates his guidance into his routine and works tirelessly in the offseason to improve his efficiency.

“I trusted his words, established a routine, and began to turn into my own player,” said Anthony.

“The biggest difference between me and my dad is that he was a straight-up bucket. A straight-up bully. He could score on you at will. I have [the] scoring ability and I can create for others.”

Anthony joins five-star forward and North Carolina native, Sadiq White, one of the top stars in high school basketball; and three-star wing, Aaron Womack.

Carmelo Anthony is a legend for the Orange because of what he accomplished in a single season from 2002-2003. The senior Anthony led the team to their first NCAA championship and was named the Final Four Most Outstanding as a freshman in ‘03. Anthony had his #15 jersey retired by Syracuse in 2013. He also had a 19-year pro career, where he was a 10-time All-NBA All-Star and made the 75th Anniversary Team. He won three Olympic Gold Medals representing Team USA and is eligible for the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2026.
